Week 7 Workshop Discussion

This is a group assignment and you have been sorted into your respective groups.  Post your script to this discussion below.  You will also find all of the original 3-page scripts by your peers posted below. Read these scripts and provide both encouragement and critical feedback to each peer, taking into consideration all of the visual storytelling elements we’ve discussed (showing/subtext, character, stakes, conflict/tension, escalation, etc.). Now, not all of these elements may be present or relevant in any given script – however, if you feel there is an opportunity to add it in, please also use this space to provide such prescriptive feedback. You may also cite screenings/scripts as a reference, as well as citations from Field, for the peer to revisit, if you feel these resources may help the revision. Feedback should be between 500-1,000 words each.

On Workshop Etiquette:

Sharing your work is a vulnerable act and a critical experience to growing as a writer. Workshop is a space to not only receive feedback on your own work that will inform your revision process, but it is also a way to improve as a writer through the act of critical analysis and articulating feedback to your peers’ work.

Therefore, the workshop environment is a place of respect. We are here to grow as empathetic writers and people. Conversations and feedback must come from a respectful and considerate position. Whether or not you enjoy the story, you must find aspects that you think, from a storytelling perspective, are both working and, perhaps, not working at its peak level. You may provide prescriptive feedbackβ€”if this was your script what might you change and why? Disrespectful, rude, or otherwise inappropriate treatment of peers or their work will not be tolerated
