Reflection Journal Entry 1

While I feel confident and relaxed in sharing material, I am still leaning into an approach of ‘script and speak’ for my public presentations. I am comfortable with writing informally for speech, but as I watch and analyze my own videos, I can still see my eyes moving left and right as they follow my written words on the screen. I am learning to get crisper with written sentence structure, but also editing speech in parallel through more rigorous rehearsal. The exercise of doing the ice breaker ten times over several days has already been practically applicable in my professional life, where it has helped me get more confident with the material and less reliant upon simply ‘reading what’s on the slide’. The challenge for me in making this more compelling is I have to use the confidence behind what I’m saying to bring more value to what I’m showing.
