Reflection Journal Entry 3
Whenever I’m creating a PowerPoint presentation, I consistently run into constraints of length. But I am learning to see this not as a constraint, but as an opportunity to get crisp with my points, create fewer but better slides, and to be more sensitive to the sequencing of my points to articulate why an audience should keep listening. I applied Duarte’s structural insights on contrasting analytical and emotional content to a real-world product presentation, where we adjusted our original slide order to present a new product to stakeholders in a more compelling and ultimately effective way.
Combining these insights with Tallamy’s delivery velocity to strengthen the scale of his argument before slowing down to spend time on quantitative analysis, I was able to leverage cadence in my narrated presentation to dial the gravitas up and down, and create a stronger pitch for changes in behavior for incoming undergraduates at Penn.
